  16. cancer; in Baltimore, Maryland. Television comedies made Gwynne's
  17. rumbling bass and skyscraper frame familiar to millions during
  18. the 1960s, first as the amiable officer Francis Muldoon in Car
  19. 54, Where Are You? and then as a suburban Frankenstein's monster
  20. in The Munsters. But the Harvard-educated Gwynne also leaves
  21. a legacy of major work for the stage: he won raves, for example,
  22. as Big Daddy in the 1974 Broadway revival of Cat on a Hot Tin
  23. Roof.
